Most driveways quoted for tear-out do not need one. The 30% rule, three checks you can do in five minutes, and the honest math on both directions.
If a contractor looks at your tired driveway for thirty seconds and declares it needs a full tear-out, be suspicious. Some driveways genuinely do. Most do not — and the difference is usually about $15,000. Here is the honest framework we use on every free assessment.
Walk your driveway and estimate what percentage of the surface is actually failing — sunken, heaved or broken. Under roughly 30%, repair or restoration almost always wins on value. Over 30%, or failure spread evenly across the whole surface, replacement starts making sense. It is a rule of thumb, not a law — but it is remarkably reliable.
We talk people into replacement maybe one time in five. The honest reasons: pavers that are spalled, scaled or discontinued beyond matching; base failure across the entire surface, not just sections; or a layout you simply do not like — widening, a different pattern, a border that frames the house. If that is you, say so at the assessment and we will quote both directions.
Either way, the assessment is free and the price is in writing. See what a repair includes, or book the free on-site visit.
We respond within one business day with a site-visit window. Site visits and written quotes are free. No high-pressure sales — ever.
